Waste of time?....probably...not cool!

In this busy time in our lives....it seems that we keep getting more info shoved at us....more messages, more emails, more junk mail, more phone calls....you get the drift.

Now we have social networking. Not sure what that really means? Well you are using it right now. Blogging was the beginning ......now there are many ways you can "keep in touch" by not really keeping in touch.

I am involved in this crazy stuff due to the impact these programs may have on our e-commerce store, www.showmecables.com . We are not sure what impact it will have, but we do not want to wake up in 2 years to find that our friends at google rank social networking at the top of their criteria for search results. So we waste time on this stuff. Hopefully it sells more patch cables.

If you would like to see the other networks that I need to review DAILY......here ya go...

1st there is facebook...you need to join face find me....Peter Foley St Louis
This one I understand.....it's basically a place where you keep in touch with others by posting remarks, pictures and videos of what is happening in your life.

2nd there is Linked In
This one is really more for business networking. You also need to join Linked In to see me. Again I am under my name and city. We also have a showmecables page....search under showmecables and we appear...you can join our page and hear about all of our companies information

3rd...you can join me at twitter
http://twitter.com/WebOptimization
This is a site that allows me to mini blog ....not sure why....but again, we need to do this stuff....we think!!

OK I think I am done.......Each day this consumes at least an hour. My concerns are:

Am I really keeping in touch with people?
If everyone is doing this....and millions are....at work no less.....and they are not doing it "for their company" then this is a big waste of productivity.

Gotta go......I need to Tweet.

St Patty's day dinner.....cool?

Happy St Patricks day.  Although I am only 1/4-1/2 Irish I do like to have to have corned beef and cabbage dinner.  Being on vacation always can screw up your dinner schedule.  Yesterday it was cloudy and raining so we decided to go see a movie.  Chris and I saw Race to Space Mountain and the girls went and saw another movie.  Of course we run late...it is vacation....and we go the 4:40 show.  Most of us had a popcorn dinner....By the time we returned back at our condo it was 7:00 pm.  It was past dinner time and most everyone was full....including me.  I decided however, to run cross the street to The Pier. They were having  a St. Patty's day party and serving corned beef.  It was the best I could do.  I figured it would be just OK....coming from a seafood place on the beach.

The only other Foley that was interested in joining me in corned beef is Jessica.  Interestingly enough Jessica is definitely the Irish one in our family.  My kids are less then 1/8 Irish....but Jessica with her Black straight hair, porcelain white skin.....never mind her sarcastic sharp humor seems to be more Irish then all the kids.

Bottom line.....we shared the BEST corned Beef and cabbage that I have ever had.  It was EXCELLENT.

OK...it's nap time on the beach gotta run...or should I say sleep.

Indian Rock......very cool

We are staying at Indian Rock Beach.  It's amazing how similar all of Florida is.  We drive out to church yesterday and I could swear I had driven these streets before.....it all looks the same.  It's OK ...we are not here for the town.....the beach is great and the place Denise found is excellent.  A three bedroom condo right on the beach with a pool.  There is a little of "spring break" going on, but not much.  he weather has been outstanding....low 80's and a good breeze. I am going to meet up with an old friend this week.  Dave was the guy who hired me at Xerox.  He lives here in Florida, it should be a good time catching up.
BTW...Indian Rock is about 15 miles north of St Pete's beach.  Water is pretty warm...not freezing, but not warm enough to be able to stay in too long.

Suburbia Dead?....not cool

For many years I have been predicting that these big homes in the suburbs will be an anchor around our necks in the years to come.  I based my opinion on the demographic shift of the baby boomers.  This morning I read an article that added to my concern.  The interesting thing is, is that the article does not even bring up the boomer bubble.  It's completely focused on the economy and long term energy prospects.  I think the author missed out on an interesting point.

Me....the second the kids are off to college, I want to sell the beast and move close to the city....or live on the beach.  Denise wants the conventional grandma's home....where there is always a place to come and visit.  I think we will always need to work to pay for just the upkeep and taxes on this place.

I can only hope that when we do move to that stage of our lives, that we do have all those visitors....and that we are not the only people that live on our street.

Stem cell research....federally funded...not cool

Here he goes again....you may disagree with me on embryonic stem cell research. I am sure all of you know where I stand on the issue. But Mr. Full Steam ahead on his social agenda signed a bill today that undid what Bush put in place many years ago. He signed a bill that even the liberal AP clearly stated today "The most immediate effect will allow federally funded researchers to use hundreds of new embryonic stem cell lines "
Bush did not outlaw embryonic stem cell research, he just let the "science" stand on it's own. Like many other issues he allowed the market to find it's worth. What Bush did do? He would not allow federal funding. Now I ask you....is now the time...with the economy like it is...he tells us it's the #1 agenda item....is now the right time to allow funding for this technology. The same technology when left on it's own.....nobody did anything with. I wonder why? because they found other things that they thought had a better chance to succeed and put there money there.....Now that Obama has said WE WILL PAY for it....now it will become a viable option?

Crazy...but again, it's politics and the liberal agenda. This had nothing to do with the economy....his first priority.

Crabby Bills....absolutely cool!!!

By Thursday night of this week I will be at one of my favorite restaurants. Crabby Bills. If you look really close you can see that there is seating on the roof. Let me lay out the setting for you.......
77-80 degrees...nice warm breeze...laying out reading a good book.....having a few cold ones for happy hour....moseying over to Crabby Bills....yup you can just go in your bathing suit if you want....ok ya gotta put a shirt on.....sit on the roof overlooking the ocean...the place is right on the beach....drink ice cold buds and eat blackened talpia....and I mean blackened. Burn your lips off hot! No one rushes you ....and then the sun sets.
perfect!

Boy Scouts....pretty cool!

I went on my first Boy Scout event with my son. He "crossed-over" last month from Weblos to the Boy Scouts. I was a scout for a short time when I was young. I loved the camping. I hate to say however, I never made it to far....not sure why. My dad and brothers were all involved for a lot longer then I was. The crazy thing was......My dad and my brother Tim were in a troop together and my oldest brother and I were in another troop. Mike was just getting out as I joined....anyway...that's another story

I have to admit, these guys know what they are doing. They held an advancement weekend. It allowed scouts the time to focus on advancement and also give the new scouts a taste of camping. Now we stayed in cabins so it was not rough at all. In fact it did not rain...it was not cold....and I ate better then I ever did in Boy Scouts when I was a kid.

I really have respect for an organization that is all about turning boys into men. Cub scouts was a mommy thing....Boy Scouts, they told them right out...it was up to them. I am looking forward to watching Chris find his way. I went with him on this first trip, figuring he may need me....yeah right....barely saw him all weekend. He and his buddies had an excellent time. BTW, there are 110 boys in the troop.

Lights speed....not cool

I like it when someone takes charge and makes decisions. Unfortunately the guy that is doing a great job at this is our new president. He is running at light speed to get his agenda through. If you support him, I am sure you are ecstatic.....for the ever growing other side....it's very scary.

He is using this economy like George W. used WMD's....remember that....If you take out the WMD and put in recession, the speeches are the same. People are scared, and with good reason. But we must realize that all of these programs are not going to make America strong.

In a speech last week, he said that Health care and education were the keys to turning the country around. How about the credit crisis. That was the flavor when he started....when he passed the largest spending bill in our history. Health care reform and education reform are not the answers for the economy. These along with the billions of pork are just more pet projects that the liberals have been waiting to get through congress for decades.

I give Obama credit....within 18 months his 63% approval rating will be under 50 and dropping....why? because the economy will still be in the dumps....people will still be unemployed....and his honeymoon will be over....thank God. But he knows this and he also knows that he has to jam every pork infested project down the American gullet before they choke and puke it up.

Wake up America......there is not enough people in the country to pay for these spending bills.
