Sarah Palin.....really? Not sure if it's cool yet

Not only is the jury out on Sarah Palin.....they have not even seen the case.  By now I am sure you read that McCain selected an unknown.  The Governor of Alaska.  I am going to do some reading on this lady.  I like what  heat so far about her fiscal responsibility and moral values.  But it will take some time.  I am surprised on how little information the press was able to dig up in the last 24 hours.

NPR had a segment on regarding Wikipedia, the encyclopedia of misinformation as we call it.  I guess someone close to the campaign went in and cleaned up her wiki page days before they announced.  NPR was trying to make it a shame shame ....is this the first blow.....well it could be if people turn this into something it is not.  Most people do not know that Wikipedia is a site that touts itself as the encyclopedia of the web.  The funny thing is.....there is no overall writer, there are no editors that ensure all the information is correct.  It is a site that allows anyone...including your truly, to write about anything and change anything.
No one that is web savvy trusts this site for correct information.  You always have to double check the sources.  Anyway, f his is the best that will come out of this....then she will be fine.

On the other hand...this women was the mayor of a town with a population of less the 10,000 less then 3 years ago.  Before that she was a Hockey mom.....no offense meant...but if we thought NObama had no experience, she is not far past him in years in top jobs.

And a Star Appeared over Denver.........NC

Did any one else see the star appear over Denver last night? There were plenty of sheep but no wise men....

I did see 95% of the Obama speech last night. Meet the teacher night, o I missed the first minutes. This guy is a very good speaker, one that can give them what they want to hear...craft an excellent speech.

Lets see.....

He now thinks Tax Cuts are good.....for 95% of working Americans
He now will invest in Nuclear......Really?

He makes fun of McCain for being around for the past 26 years, a time when we knew we would have troubles with foreign oil....first he picks Joe Biden.....who joined the senate in 1973...35 years ago...and second..when gas was less the a buck....not to long ago....we didn't have any issues and anyone who would of brought up the issue would of been thought of as a lunatic.

Cut the capital gains tax for small business? what?

Make sure that everyone can afford college? Sounds great....let's have everyone afford a house, let's have everyone afford all the food they need, let's have everyone be equal...it's only fair right?...it's socialism. Life is not fair, communism has not worked. OK Capitalism is not perfect, but it has led to the strongest nations in the world. It may be unfair and in fact brutal at times...but it works.

More later, gotta go sell the cables.

Fried Dough is cool.....

One of the many things I miss from the northeast is the food. The Midwest just does not do "food" like the Northeast. Well......my bro Tim is taking care of that this Labor Day weekend....he is sending me Hummels Hot Dogs and Dough from New Haven CT. There is not a better Hot dog on the market then Hummels. My affair with the dogs started at our long time friends, the Prices. Living in New Haven county, they only serve Hummel Dogs.

Now I know that my sister will start the Grote and Weigel thing....but come on Pat....Hartford Hot dogs are lousy!

Anyway, the real treat is the dough. Every year my clan in CT holds a family reunion. Over the years we have been missing more and more of them due to travel....my kids HATE to miss this thing. One of the highlights of the day is the arrival. As you unload all your junk for the day, there stands my Uncle Bob making fried dough. He is this larger then life Italian guy with always has this great big smile and laugh. No matter when you see him, it seems like he just saw you yesterday. My kids think he's great, and they see him very infrequently. ....OK back to the dough....well you cannot get this dough in the Midwest. People here consistently vote Pizza hut as the "best pizza" of the year. It's crazy. We will talk Pizza later.

Well, another busy day and I can blog all day on Pizza and Fried Dough....more later.

Jo, I know you are a reader, can you comment and leave Uncle Bob's phone number....I want to call him and make sure I make this stuff right!

No Time to blog today.....not cool

I have very little time to blog....

So last night I was going to watch her Billery at the DNC. Unfortunately I fell asleep and awoke just as she was ending her speech.

Just a note.....was that a yellow pantsuit the women was wearing??.....YELLOW?????

What ever it was, was hideous.

Gotta run.

Comments are cool......

Blogging is cool enough, but when people post comments is always cooler! It's like opening a little present when you go to your account. On that note, I figured that I needed to grease the wheel....so I just spent the last 20 minutes posting comments to my sister and daughters blog.

Taylor's is http://theventfullifeofme.blogspot.com/
and Patty's is: http://thebigmove-crownridge.blogspot.com/

This whole blogging started when we built a pool. I still go back to this blog every once in a while and get a few laughs.

http://foleypool.spaces.live.com/

So if you're reading.....leave a comment, I would love to hear from you!

9 year old too good?....not cool

9-year-old boy told he’s too good to pitch

What a story....so now if you are too good....you can't play.

Let's just make sure all the kids get a participation trophy!!

Michele Obama's speech.....OK...it was fine

I watched without much anticipation to Michele Obama's speech last night. The reason for the lack of anticipation is that I feel that these conventions are so scripted, that no one really makes a big mistake. The speech was just that, no problems...well rehearsed and overall a nice speech. She is no Hillary Clinton, Although I despise the women, Hillary is very Charismatic.

The only thing I thought was strange was Michele's mothers response to the speech. Here is the mom....her daughter at the pinnacle of her life....discussing the love of her brother, her mother and then the story about her deceased father. How he contracted MS at 30....how he never complained....how he would use crutches to cross the room to kiss her mother....getting up early everyday to dress himself...It was quite the story. I even teared up.....BUT NOT MOM.....deadpan...no emotion ...nothing....I found that VERY strange.

Did you notice when explaining where he was he said St. Louis!!!! Then said Kansas City....for all of my CT readers....KC is 4 hours away on the opposite side of the state....Barack must have slipped....it happens...BTW though, if John McCain made that slip, they would be saying he was senile!

The quotes are starting.....cool

Here is Biden less then 1 year ago....
In the midst of his own campaign for president, Biden told Newsweek magazine in August 2007 that he thought Obama could eventually be ready for the job but "right now, I don't believe he is. The presidency does not lend itself to on-the-job training."

Joe Biden?????could be cool!

Isn't this the same guy that called Obama the first "clean" African American. Back in January Big Mouth Joe said "I mean, you've got the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a story-book, man," Biden said."I mean, you've got the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a story-book, man,"

Obama may have forgotten that Joe Biden is a guy that continually tastes shoe leather. He just cannot help himself. I look forward to the funny blunders and I cannot wait to post some of the comments he made about Obama when running for the position of President in January.

I am sure Rush and the gang will be piling on this week. I will need to eat lunch in my car this week to get the skinny!

Team USA brings home the GOLD! COOL

I had waited all week and tried not to hear any news about the women's soccer match before last night. They had played 12 hours earlier and I was afraid I would hear the result and ruin my Thursday night plans. I am happy to report....I didn't hear a thing and had a great night watching our young Americans beat Brazil to capture the GOLD. As many of you know, the game went into overtime where Team USA scored in the 6th minute. Chris, Jessica and I stayed up late to watch the game. Denise had told us to try to be quiet......yeah right.....if you're a soccer fan then you know what happens when someone finally scores....GOOOOOAAAAAAL!!!

Great game, great coverage by NBC. Great Job Team USA!!!

Wireless Offerred on American Airlines....????

How many times have you heard the Flight Attendant ask you to turn off ALL electronic devices. They even ask the kids to turn off the game boys. If you ever asked why, it always came down to interference for the plane. I read today that AA will now start offering wireless services for laptops, phones and gaming devices for $12.95 per flight. I guess safety is out the window....screw those pansy pilots....let them fly without any clear communications.....

Always knew they were lying. They just want us to pay attention to them while they give us the seat belt story and then not to have us bother our neighbor while we are flying. Now that they can make money at it....who cares that when I am trying to snooze on the flight, Johnny "loud talker" will be bringing home his big deal of the month.

Off to the reviews.

Taylor's driving.....not sure if this is cool

Another milestone at our house was reached last week. My oldest finally got her driving permit. I say finally because she is 16 and 2 months. She could of gotten the permit at 15. She really had no interest in driving and probably would still not have gotten the permit if it had not been required for Drivers Ed. She signed up for the class at High School, so it forced the issue.

One of the first drives reminded me that she is my kid. The first time I drove was with the instructor on main street in Trumbull CT. Within a few minutes the instructor calmly let me know that driving on the sidewalk was not a good idea. (probably was not the last time that happened) Anyway.....Taylor needed to turn around in a strip mall. The turn was a little wide an up on the sidewalk we went. I was proud of myself.......I calmly told her the same thing the instructor told me 31 years ago!

She is not the biggest fan of driving yet. But she is doing just fine!

The August Busy season....not cool

Mid August is here and you would think that things would be slow. Just the opposite around here. August is usually are busiest month. That's always a good thing......but with school starting mid August this year, football coaching, soccer coaching and last but not least employee reviews all starting in Mid August...whew! September looks like a vacation! The reviews alone are about 30 hours of meetings throughout the back half of the month.

To top it all off.....St Louis is having unbelievable weather this week! May just need to sneak out a get 18 in.

Sarah Haskins and NBC.......COOL!

Our sponsored Triathlete came in 11th! Great Job Sarah!. I am sure she was a little disappointed, but let's keep things in perspective....she just started in the sport 5 years ago and she is only 26 or so....she will be back and on the podium next time.

Denise and I watched it live on http://www.nbcolympics.com/ NBC has done an outstanding job covering the Olympics. They have two channels on Dish that are exclusively running soccer and basketball, then their coverage on NBC and then lastly you can go to their site and watch live events. Chris and I watched live Team Handball a few nights ago....really cool stuff......probably would not make prime time. Check out their site and look to the left. Next to the listing of the sport is a little live button if the sport live.

Great Job NBC,

BTW, on the news today it stated the NBC will be making boat loads of dollars off the Olympics. They have done a great job...it's paid off in the best viewership in decades...thus advertising dollars are up. Good for them!

Walgreens....not always cool!

OK, I like Walgreens. I get their circular every week.....along with another 15 or 20. It's the only one that I look at religiously. Why? because they always have some great little deals. I love a good deal. If they were not right across the street from my office, maybe I wouldn't go there....but since I do not have to waste any additional gas to get my deals....then the more the merrier.

Last week they had brand name cereal for $1.25 a box....cannot beat that anywhere....and this was not the stuff nobody wanted....it was Golden Grahams...Special K with strawberries and others. They had a pack of 10 pencils for 9 cents for back to school. There is always a little deal to be had. After being raked over at Ben & Jerrys for the $5 cone....I feel like I won against the almighty retailers!

Anyway, the only bad thing about Walgreens is that they make it difficult to get the deals. You need to be a hawk at the register and make sure they give you the deal, you need to really read the ad so you don't by accident by the wrong size deodorant and get charged double the price....stuff like that. Denise hates Walgreens.........she hates those little details and thinks "The Man" is trying to stick it to her.
I thin k she really thinks the little blue hair behind the register is trying to rip her off!

OK .....gotta go sell the patch cables

Kids are back to school today....not so cool!

I believe the summer is for kids!  They should get bored......they should relax, have fun and make great memories.  So the kids go back to school today....AUGUST 13th.....Rockwood School District is crazy.  I am not sure of all of the issues....but for some reason they had to start the school very early.

I broke tradition today.  For the past 11 years I have followed the bus to school.  In the early years, riding right behind the bus so the kids could see me through the windows and in the  later years when I would be a few cars back....not trying to embarrass them.  Even in the later years, they would all look over to car and give me a smile or wave.  This year, I stayed home and made them all breakfast and saw them off to the bus.....only one (Chris) or had to drive them to school.  I am sure Chris does not even notice that the red rocket is not following the bus.  As a 5th grader...he is king of the bus this year.

A chapter closes today......another one will open.....maybe it will be a yearly breakfast send off!

The ride behind the bus is a great memory.....I am sure the kids will always remember their crazy dad insisting on following them.

What a rip off.....not cool

So I am at a business dinner at Farttos last night for dinner. This is one of the best places for dinner in West County. The risotto is just fantastic. They in fact always cook to order anything I want in the dish. Great service and great food. Denise calls me earlier to tell me that my oldest (16) is on a date at the movies in the valley. Her new boyfriend has just gotten his license and both Denise and I think that driving at night with the new beau......too risky. I am in the valley anyway, so I can get her after the movies on my way home.

My dinner ended about 8:45 and the movie did not end until about 9:20. So to kill time, I figure I will treat myself to a Ben & Jerrys ice cream cone. I can't remember the last time I had one. As anyone who visits me in St Louis....I am a Silkys man. The best custard on the planet....period. Anyway, I decide on a 2 scoop Cherry Garcia. The cone was more like a 1 1/2 scoop and it was $5.05 Can you believe that! A plain cone....nothing special. What a rip off. It was good but Eddys Cherry Chip and cherry ice cream has it beat hands down....and I can buy that 3 gallons for $10 on sale in the supermarket.

Their business must be hurting....who spends that kind of money on ice cream. It would of cost me close to $40 to take my family to get the ice cream! Crazy!

On another note.....I worked at Carvel for a few years in HS. A small cone was 45 cents and the large was 55 cents. That was in 1977-1979. Remember fudggy the whale....and a whale of a cake for dad. Tom Carvel was the funniest pitch man for a company.

Keep posting....I am in a funk....not cool

Not sure why, but I have been in a writing funk for the past few weeks. I need to get the soap box out and post daily. My ranking on the blog went to a PR of 2 so I cannot do any of that crazy advertising until Google reassess the site. I was surprised that I was at a PR3 to begin with.

Anyway, here is some topics I am going to start to rant about ion the next few days......promise:

Obama stating he believes in Jesus....but that Jesus knows that he may not always be right about his faith

Ice Cream cones at Ben and Jerrys....what a rip off.

Unlimited Popcorn at the movies.....

Walgreens with their wacky promotions....

Until Then!!!

Sarah Haskins.......Cool!

As many of you know we sponsor an Olympic Athlete. She and her family have been a friend to our buisness for many years. Beside being an absoulte great athlete, Sarah is a great young lady. She will compete in the womens triathalon. Keep your eyes peeled for our hope from St Louis.

A odd fact about the games I learned this week is that Sarah is now staying in Korea. Her team will train there before going to China the day before her event. They are doing this due to the air pollution in Bejing.

From all of us at http://www.showmecables.com/ .........Good Luck Sarah....bring home the GOLD!!!

Weber Grills......NOT COOL

I am a loyal fan of Weber Grills. I bought mine over 12 years ago and have had many friends buy Webers after being at my house. This week I will be rebuilding the inside of the grill. I have rebuilt it once before. I repainted the bottom and replaced the flavor bars and cooking grills. This time I need to replace those flavor bars and the gas pipes themselves. Home Depot does not carry the gas pipes so I needed to order them on-line.

As I ordered the parts I noticed the site stated that it may take 5 days to ship. I thought this would be crazy and that they probably were just setting the expectation really low. I buy a ton on-line and it is usually shipped within 48 hours. At our site www.showmecables.com we ship all orders the same day, right up until 5:00 p.m.

So when my stuff didn't come within a few days....also no shipping confirmation....I called. The women said my order was in the system and that the warehouse would get to my order within the next week! I asked her if she was serious? Oh Yes....we are very busy? Parts are in? I ask....oh yes no issue there. I then ask her if this is normal....yup it is...they are in their busy season and everybody is fixing their grills....and with a lot of people on vacation...they cannot seem to fill the orders! Talk about an order prevention department. The guy who is running that shop should be canned. Hire some summer help you moron! I would guess that the summer.....that comes every year....is not an anomaly in being their busy time. Great planning Weber.

Amazing people can be successful in spite of themselves!

Lats Tuesday since I blogged....not cool?

I cannot believe I have been away since last Tuesday....Last week was not that busy...guess I will need to make it up this week.

Taylor came home on Saturday! Yeah! She was away for 9 days in Washington DC on a leadership seminar. They spent a bunch of time sight seeing... If T gets off her lazy writing hand....you may be able to catch her thoughts on her new blog It's funny how teenagers can go 24 hours with their buddies, but God forbid they stay up a few extra minutes to talk to the people who pay for the trip. Yes we have all turned into our parents!!

This weekend Chris and I thought we would set up an outdoor theater. We used the extra projector from my office. We bought a kin size sheet and a bunch of rivet things. We had some PVC Pipes hanging around and in a few hours had the whole thing set up. We watched Martian Child. The movie was not that great and the little boy in the movie could not of mumbled more....but we had fun.

A couple of things about an outdoor theater....
First, the projector really does not matter....the one we have has only a composite video output (lowest quality) and the picture was outstanding....for a bed sheet!
2nd...Sound...we have a portable PA system....it worked great except for the fact that yo0u are outside at 9 or 10 o'clock blasting the sound.....better invite the neighbors to the screening.

Lastly....it's a neat thing to do....but when it's over you need to hump all the stuff inside....nothing like just stumbling into bed!
