As we drive into Oregon...on The Astoria bridge, (At one time this was supposedly one of the longest bridges in the country.) we almost had a big problem.
We just start on the bridge when we hear this big flapping noise...it's the rollout canopy that comes with the beast. We have not used it yet .....no kidding right! I look out and it has unraveled and is flapping in the 90 MPH winds!
This thing is an automatic rollup system and I of course cannot remember how to work it. So we get out the CD that came with te beast and start the generator so we can follow along.....all the while the wind is really whipping up. So i became Johnny fix it and climb up on the top of the HOW with three bungee cords. Yes I have spare bungee cords...I am so prepared....not actually....Denise made me bring them... Of course she reminded me of that when she told me to go get them.
Of course this is the time that the kids start to act up a lillte. ll day Jessica has said nothing...reading quietly....and now Taylor and she must start to squabble about a book. Can we keep it down...while I am scaling the beast!
Anyway...no way to fix it. If I undo it in this wind it will rip right odd....so I decide to try to bungee it up.....almost impossible to do...I think I have it. We start to drive over the bridge and within the first few yards....boing boing boing ....you got it the bungees release. Then there is no flapping....But the wind died down...I figured we are OK....We only have 8 miles to camp.
When we get to camp I go to check the damage...either two things....
It totally ripped off or it managed to right it self and it's rewound back in it's spot. Not sure which it's dark...it's not flapping...there is always tomorrow.
Going out to check it right now!
