We spent the day Saturday in Chinatown and Sunday we spent most of the day in Alcatraz. Both were excellent...but
Alkatraz was GREAT. They had a walking tour with a ranger. This guy had actually swam the channel in 42 minutes. He also had swam it with x-convicts. He was a wealth of knowledge. The prison also had one of those audio tours. You put earphones in and actual inmates guards direct you through the prison. They also tell you all sorts of stories. Lastly they run a movie that is very interesting. Overall, we spent 3-4 hours at this place...could of been longer...except we were FREEZING. The Rock is
definitely the place to visit when you are in San Fran.
We had a great lunch in Chinatown and we had dinner the next night at Fisherman's Wharf.
We ran out of time at Fisherman's and wish we could spend another day...but the beast is calling and we are off on the road this morning to Big Sur.
It was great catching up with family on this tour. Mike and Gigi and our three nieces are great. They moved here less then a year ago and it looks like California is treating them well. hey were great hosts...we sucked up their whole weekend with our brood.
This is our last stop with friends or family during the tour.....off we go to the beach.

We are enjoying reading about your trip! So far we our advice has sent you down the road in S Dakota only to have to turn around when THE BEAST couldn't make it through (2 hours each way) and to an Idaho town that looks like all the others HAHA! No more advice from us!! Courtney's heading to San Ramon, CA this Wed to visit her friend Samantha that moved there about 3 years ago (they take turns every Christmas/summer traveling back-n-forth). Do your relatives attend California High School in San Ramon? What's up with the whole FIRST CLASS flight home thing? I'm with you MOM & DAD-rarely happens to me, either!

It was great having you for the weekend. Hopefully Pete will learn to wear a sweatshirt at the Beach the rest of the trip! The Girls watched "Birdman of Alcatraz" after you left, the tour left quite an impression.
Enjoy Big Sur! Once you head inland you will get all the warmth you desire.
Kids - Lay off the Cigarettes the rest of the trip, don't you know they are bad for you!
