Yesterday my great Uncle Joe passed away. I think he was 89. It was a sad day for the Caselli family. There were 14 and Uncle Joe was the last one that died. Paul, my grandfather was his older brother. Intersetingly enough, my grandmother Nat Nat, Paul's wife, was one of 12. Do the math....did I have cousins....hundreds and hundreds spread all over the Fairfeild county area.
It was a generation that stayed close to home....where family was first and activities came second. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood was going to my grandparents on Sunday and having manacotti.....for all of you non-italians....we pronounce it mana gat..... Nat Nat made the best....wiuth little tiny meatballs.....It was the best. The house was always full of men playing pinochle and the women cooking and laughng....I can still hear my Aunt Mary's laugh...OK Mary was not an Aunt, but she was to me. And lastly....the kids....all my siblings and cousins running around in this little tiny house on Honeyspot road.
Although a few of my great aunts are still alive all the Caselli siblings have passed.
The last of a generation of a great clan died yesterday. God Bless them all....thanks for all the great memories.
